| Here is my daughter Jamie and I on the simulator at March Air Force Base. I have always wondered if I could land a commercial airliner without any help from the pilots, only the voice commands from the onboard computer and radio instruction from the ground???? Well I made the landing with all on board mostly surviving. The hard part was controlling and stopping the aircraft after it was on the ground. I was told by the flight instructor, who was operating the simulator computer, that although the landing was survivable, the undercarriage and landing gear of the plane would never be the same. In the picture Jamie and I are attempting to land in heavy fog only on instruments, which didnt work out so well. The simulator was extremely realistic. At times you felt like you were falling out of the sky totally out of control while white knuckling your seat. With all alarms, voice warning commands, flashing warning lights, outside visuals and rapid simulator movement you truly believed you were flying or crashing the aircraft. We had over an hour in the simulator, what an experience! -- Ken Burton 72 |
