I was walking through a San Jose shopping center with my main squeeze Debra when one of Santa's staff signaled me to come over. He was the photographer taking pictures of Santa Claus and the little varmints who wanted to sit in Santa's lap and tell him what they wanted for Christmas. I walked over to the low white-picket fence around Santa's throne area to see what the elf wanted. He smiled, acted like he was pulling on his beard, though he had none, and then asked if I wanted a job. "Me, Santa?" I asked. He nodded yes with a big smile. So the next thing I knew, Debra and I were sitting in Santa's throne, next to the big man, she on my lap. Santa put his hat on my head and they took the enclosed picture. I had to pay for some glossies but it was worth it. What fun. I might just sit in the big man's chair next year. Happy New Year to all Colts -- Bill Copeland '61
