Hometown Buffet Football Banquet
Last week week I shared a news article about Crawford's winless football team, and Charger Kris Thieman giving them a pep talk. Ron "The Cannon Man" Dixon quickly emailed the suggestion that we try to get out and support the team for its final game. Too late -- it was 2:30 that very afternoon. Barbara Bright Wilder '62, whose back fence apparently abuts the football field, did serve them punch and cookies, but I believe she's been a supporter all season long.
I was able to contact Coach Mike Ward with the suggestion that alumni might help him out if, say, he wanted to take the players to lunch at Hometown Buffet. Great minds think alike, 'cause he'd already booked the place for Veterans' Day. I invited you all to join us -- and many of you did.
Nancy and I were there, along with members of the 1962 CIF Champs Steve Haiman, Ron Newport and Hal Posthumous. Duane Farrar had hoped to attend, but ended taking his wife to

The emergency room. I hope she is OK. Class of '64 alumni included Mike and Kim Beavers Shannon, Ron Dixon, and Susan Marshall Gordon. Tom Rowe '66 was in attendance, as were Rick Deslaurier '75 and Joe Naiman '82. Nelson Moore '61 couldn't stay, but left a donation in a sealed envelope for the coach. Other folks just stuffed his pockets with $20 bills. Thanks to on-line donations from Bob Graham '59, Katherine Herd '60, Susan Kitaen Rhea '66, Jeff Lee '66, Richard Lidbom '62, John McMullen '63, Holly Waters Duran '69 and Charles Wax '68 I was able to give Coach Ward a check for $600.00.
I trust Coach Ward will give us an "After-Action Report" as to monies collected and what we were able to do for the team. We hope to be able to be involved with other sports this year and to get an earlier start supporting next year's footbal team. |
