I KNEW NANCY WATSON WINGO WOULD go nuts -- once she got oriented -- when she saw this 1945 Howard Rozelle aerial. It looks northwest across the intersection of 44th and University, not far from where she lived for a couple of years as a toddler. As she of the encyclopedic memory is wont to do, she started naming every business along the way, starting with the Crest Theater. That looks like Wilson Junior High at the top of the photo, Central Elementary at the left, and possibly Rosary High School somewhere at the upper, middle, right. I've included a page from the 1954 City Directory for your reference.

Here's another aerial Howard must have taken just before the photo above.  The intersection at the lower right is 43rd and University.  The building on the northwest corner is a Piggly Wiggly.
