San Diego State University
(as pictured in the 1968 Del Sudoeste)
The San Diego State photo is fabulous and I have three comments. The church right next to College Avenue used to be in Downtown San Diego, then San Diego State, and then moved to Hardy and Palm Avenue in Lemon Grove, near your grandmother's home on Skyline. It caught fire but was restored and still stands. Next about State: in the construction zone near the bottom of the picture, they built little stores and a recreation center. I won the contest to name the tiny supply store, naming it La Tienda. It's long since been replaced. Finally, in an age of everyone going to rock concerts all the time, I only went to a handful, being Jimi Hendrix, Joan Baez, Gordon Lightfoot and Yanni. Joan Baez and Gordon Lightfoot I saw at the Greek Bowl, so it brings back fond memories. And, I guess fond memories is what you are all about! Thank you again -- Sharon Sceper Cramer '68
