John,
thank you for this article. There is a typo, it is Malka not
Marta. Malka married Michael Nagel, one of my husband's very best
friends, and together had 3 sons--the eldest has passed, the middle son
lives in or near London, England, and was born the same year as
my daughter, 1980, and their youngest is slightly younger
than my son Kevin--but all 5 kids went to the same Hebrew School at
Congregation Beth David in Saratoga, CA. Malka and Mike were both
born in Israel, so it is no surprise that neither spoke English. Malka's
brother David Buchinger lived for a time in NYC, but has been living in
Israel for many years now. Small World — Donna Kanter Frankel

It’s a small world. My friend who lives in Israel sent me this
article. She got it from a mutual friend - Donna Kanter Frankel. I am an
immigrant from Israel who moved to San Diego when I was 6 years old in
1960. The article is correct. I did not know English.
MY parents spoke Hungarian at home so I understand Hungarian.
I grew up in Israel so I spoke and understood Hebrew. I got
married young at 21 while still in college. I received my BA in
social work from SDSU as well as my Masters from SDSU in social work,
with one year at Boston University. I also studied one year abroad
at Tel Aviv University. My ex-husband was also born in Israel. He
was a PhD physicist who was working in the nuclear energy field at
General Atomic. We moved to the San Francisco Bay Area in 1979,
one year after my first son was born. We lived in Cupertino most of the
time, where we raised three boys. My oldest son passed away from
brain cancer in 2017. My career moved from social services to
working in the semiconductor field. I owned two different
companies, providing all aspects of marketing-design, typsetting,
printing and trade shows. Following that I got my real estate
license, while also breeding German Shepherd dogs under the then
world-renowned kennel, von Alcazar Zwinger. For 15 years I owned
and ran a dog kennel in Santa Clara, CA called A Pet Villa. I sold
it to retire and spend time with my now 97-year old mother who lives in
San Diego, as well as my grandkids who live in Arizona and England.
I have a 38-year old single son who lives in San Francisco and is a
marketing tech, if anyone has any leads!! I live in San Diego and in
Santa Cruz, CA — Marta Buchinger Nagel
