Guam: Marianas Islands

Some scenic shots of the island

I guess we went to Guam because my dad had orders to report aboard the tugboat YTB-418.  On the back of a photo dated October 1950 he wrote "My room is right below the sign YTB-418 where you see three port holes with a door half covering one".

The USNS Daniel Sultan enters Apra Harbor, Guam in April 1951 with Dorothy, John and Vicki aboard.

Quonset Huts -- as far as the eye can see!!

The outdoor theater and the Santa Rita Soda Fountain

The Tumon Beach Service Club and the Guam Post Office, with Dorothy at the wheel of the Ford Coupe

A few photos of Jeff

Quonset Hut interiors.  Mom strikes a pose on a camphor chest that is still in the family.

I thought this was the kitchen.   Looks more like the laundry room.

Dorothy at the Singer sewing machine, posing in the yard, and ready to go for a drive

Vicki and John head up the steps to home

Vicki and John

Six shots of Vicki.  That's not a Short Wave Radio above.  It's a Mah Jongg set.

John and Vicki pose in front of a captured Japanese submarine.

I used to remember the exact date, but sometime in September 1951 I contracted polio.

By December I was in good enough shape to be flown back to the states, accompanied by my Dad, in a MATS C-54 Litter Plane filled with Korean War wounded.
