My
house at 4230 Haines shortly after I bought it in September 1972 and
again perhaps in 1974. Ed Reed nailed shingles on it for a rustic
look. Parked in front are Tom's 1970 Forest Green VW and my 1968
yellow Pontiac Firebird.
Putting
Tom LaShell's Hobie 14 in my backyard. John "JP" Pergrin,
Jeff Dalrymple, Tom and Steve Barwood prepare to move the mast.
Below, Jeff stands guard over the boat and car. I bought the
Volkswagen fresh off the assembly line in Wolfsburg, Germany in 1970
when Steve, Tom and I toured Europe and Tom bought it off me later
on. I believe it met its end downtown in when Tom was T-Boned in
an intersection.
Tom LaShell, Judy King and I watching whales. Judy and I dated for a while.
I have no idea where this was taken

My
late brother-in-law Brian Cathcart, possibly at the family home on
Elkelton in Spring Valley, in March of 1974. I don't know the back
story on the truck. The license plate could be from New Mexico

I think Robert Smull took this photo for my 1975 run for City Council
Over-the-Line 1975

Jordan Dalrymple, or Gordy Dabubble as he called himself, at age 2.

Adam and Ken Jr -- and me -- aboard the USS Alabama in Mobile Bay

I think it was the summer of 1978 that I
wandered into Filippi's Pizza in Pacific Beach for lunch. A
waitress took my order, but another waitress (we called them that in
1978) kept giving me the eye. She was breathtakingly beautiful so
I, of course, kept looking over my shoulder to see who she was REALLY
smiling at. Finally she came over and said, "Are you Mr.
Fry?" Normally my answer is, “Maybe — who wants to know?" In
this case, I quickly answered in the affirmative. "You're my
brother Kevin's favorite teacher," she said. Kevin Knepper was a
student of mine at Hale Junior High. I could only gulp and smile
and allow as how I was glad. I started dining at Filippi's on a
regular basis and finally said to Terri, "I'm in charge of the Miss
Pacific Beach Pageant", I said. "I think you'd make a great
contestant." "Oh, no", she replied "I could never get up in front
of a bunch of people in a bathing suit." Anyway, Terri left Filippi's
and I never saw her again. Until May 1980. I was leaving the 7/11
on Garnet and Fanuel and -- "Son of a Bitch" -- there was Terri on the
cover of Playboy. Well, I guess she hadn't lied. She hadn't
gotten up in front of a bunch of people in a bathing suit.
