The narrow road in the left foreground was built on fill, dividing the canyon with the open air theater portion on the right, unaltered canyon on the left. Fritz Ziegenfuss and I went to all the Aztec home basketball games coached by his dad George. At halftime there would be a huge crowd in the foyer area of the gym, making it impossible to get to the vending machines to buy a candy bar. So we would run full-speed across the road in the picture to the vending machines in the entry shown in the photo, then run back full speed. It was always pitch-black, there being almost no lights on campus at night -- Bob Richardson '61
