I'm guessing on the date of this photo, but the Navy was still parking its ships in the middle of the harbor.  I can spot an LSD, an oiler, a destroyer, and an AKA I think.  That might be a cruiser on the right at North Island, plus an Essex-class carrier and an oiler parked further south.
