San Diego State College • 1967
President Malcolm Love fought to increase SDSC's ranking from a college to a university.  In 1972 the California legislature approved the renaming of the school to California State University, San Diego. San Diego State officials were not happy with the name and, on January 1, 1974, it was renamed San Diego State University — SDSU

The pesky shadows in this magnificent aerial illustrate the difficulties of facing south -- into the sun -- as a photographer.  Nonetheless, former Aztecs might enjoy retracing their steps in this shot.  My '62 Crawford graduation ceremony was held in the Greek Bowl (top center), I climbed the stairs to the top of the Women's Gym on Saturday morning to assist Dr. Fred Kasch in monitoring EKGs for his long-term heart study, I was on the west side of Aztec Bowl on June 6, 1963 when JFK gave the graduation address, and I remember Dr. Abe Nasatir's lectures in the Social Studies building. I'm not sure I can locate the cafeteria but, when I was bucks up I would shell out 25¢ for mashed potatoes and gravy in a Melmac dish.  I'm not sure what's going on south of the Campus Lab School, but it looks like new construction.
