San Diego State University
(K C Alfred aerials from the April 22,
2026 San Diego Union-Tribune)
A nice view, looking north on the
Campanile. I think that's the wilds of Del Cerro in the
background, with Adobe Falls Road and Highway 8 tucked in there
somewhere. As a Freshman, in the Fall of 1962, I was able to drive
north on College Avenue, sweep around about where those blue things are
and park on the street in front of the Administration Building. I
think that's it at the upper left with all the red tile on the room.
Looking
northeast across the athletic field at Montezuma and 55th. Hardy
Avenue and Lindo Paseo are nestled in those high rise buildings
somewhere. Remember "S" Mountain? It's still there, way in the background, but
folks insist on calling it Cowles Mountain.
The "Bonus Aerial" below, taken by Meg McLaughlin, showed up in the April 23, 2026 UT
It
took me a few minutes to figure this one out. That's Cowles
Mountain in the background and Lake Murray a little closer, so we're
looking northeast. I think that's the Ralph's and Pep Boys, where
Montezuma joins El Cajon Boulevard at 67th Street, roughly in the center
of the photo. Way off in the upper right corner is that water
tank near Grossmont College.
