San Diego Memories II is the second of three (so far) coffee table books on the history of San Diego produced by Pediment Publishing in partnership with the San Diego Union-Tribune and the San Diego History Center.

I think that the editor of this book may have taken particular note of the fact that three Slayen brothers served in the Armed Forces during World War II as seen in the photo on the bottom left. If you look closely at the picture you can see it framed photo of my uncle on the mantle piece, making three brothers in uniform. Perhaps similar to many of our Crawford Hi classmates, Larry and I lived with our mother at our grandparents’ home during World War II, reuniting with our father upon his return from Japan in early 1946 -- Ron Slayen ’62
