On August 23, 2008 eight classmates and five spouses from the Campus Lab School 6th Grade Class of 1955 gathered for a great reunion. Actually, this was the second of two reunions this summer, the earlier one on June 28 when ten classmates gathered. Six of us are reunion junkies and attended both.
The two photos show the same five kids in the same left-to-right sequence, one (above) from 6th grade ('54-'55), the other from August 23: Fritz Ziegenfuss, Kristin Amundsen Ogley, Michele Ruja Jirek, Fred Cairns, and Kenny Schulte. Fritz and Fred are Crawford '61, Kris went to Mt. Miguel, Michele and Kenny went to Helix. Kenny was the source of the snakes--he had lots of them.
There were twenty-four in our class, eleven of whom went to Crawford: Natalie Ault Barry, Carol Sue Blankenship Bradford, Fred Cairns, Sherry Dennstedt Zullo, Shirley Dowling (now goes by middle name, Diane), Ray Gibbs, Gary Grossman (deceased), Jim Schrupp, Iris Jean Wilson, Phillips, Fritz Ziegenfuss, and me.
The reunion last Saturday was hosted by Carol Williams Beres, who lived just off College Avenue on Cresita Drive, but attended Bishop. The June reunion was hosted by Diane Einstein Singer, who went to Horace Mann and Crawford in 10th grade, but then finished up at Point Loma. The June reunion also was attended by Carol Sue's sister, Julia (CLS '53 and Crawford '59) and Carol's daughter, Becky. Becky and Carol had come all the way from Grand Bay, Alabama (for a family gathering, which I took advantage of with the date of the CLS reunion).
Nine of the class still live in the San Diego area, two more live elsewhere in southern California, six are here in northern California, one each in Alabama, Nevada, Georgia, Florida, Texas, and Idaho.
Two of the locals spend time at homes elsewhere as well, one in Idaho, one in Utah.
We had two previous reunions, in 1985 and 1990, and are aiming for another in 2010, which will be 55 years after we graduated from CLS in 1955. Yikes! -- Bob Richardson '61
