Mission Valley • 1936

(Photos by Henry F. Withey, posted on Facebook by Tom Isom)

Looking East from the Presidio

A keen eye can make out the "S" on Cowles Mountain at the center of the photo.  The brilliant white Carmelite Monastery at the north end of Hawley Blvd can also be seen on the bluff to the right of center.

Mission San Diego de Alcala

I can't quite figure out where this photo was taken from.  Perhaps Kensington.  Mission San Diego de Alcala is about to be covered in a cloud -- or perhaps the cloud is heading west.  Grantville and Mission Gorge are visible to the right.  (Below) A recently-tinted view of the above photo is so good it looks like an original Kodachrome.
