GREETINGS FROM SEACREST VILLAGE!

John -- I had a great visit with our ’62 classmate Nancy Prager Levin and her husband Ken here at the Seacrest Village Retirement Complex, where I live.  They were here from Laguna Woods to visit me and David Amos, widower of Bunny Feurzeig, another classmate who recently passed away. We’ve remained close all this years.  We had a day of reminiscing about San Diego and everyone we knew. My husband George (Point Loma High ‘56) was in the Goldberg Health Care Center for six and a half years. It’s part of the Seacrest Village Retirement complex in Encinitas.  I was driving most days to visit him from La Jolla.  Last August I rented an apartment in the Independent Living section, so I didn’t have to drive.   George passed away last December, leaving me with a decision: I could stay at Seacrest, move near my daughter in Altadena, or buy another house. My daughter’s home, business and everything they owned was destroyed in the Altadena fire.  Seacrest was established 150 years ago as the Hebrew Home for the Aged, at one time near 54th and University behind the old JCC.   It was sponsored and supported by the Jewish community, but open and welcoming to all. It’s an enormous “campus” in Encinitas offering a wonderful life:  Meals, education, physical options including an indoor swimming pool.  So many activities and lectures — a world of opportunities.  Hope you’re not sorry you asked — Gayle Wishnek Wise ‘62
