 John Allison February 24, 1944 -
                      December 7, 2007
                  John Allison was playing golf
in Arizona with Duane Farrar, Dave Bruen and I.
John, Tom Whelan and I were in a golf cart
together when John had a heart attack. Though I
administered CPR and paramedics arrived within 10
minutes, John passed away just before 3:00 on
December 7, 2007. Holding vigil at the Paradise
Valley Hospital were Fox, Bruen, Farrar, Whelan,
Jim Rupe, Larry Dubbs, Bill Rainey and Ronnie
Newport. We were all in Phoenix for Larry Dubbs’
annual Alzheimer benefit golf event. We all loved
John and will miss him terribly -- Ron Fox

 Cathy Angelo November 4, 1944 – January 14, 2012

                  Cathy was diagnosed with stage
four lung cancer in May, 2011.  She underwent
chemotherapy. which prolonged her life.  Her
friends stepped up to help her until hospice was
brought in near the end.  Cathy enjoyed
watching old movies and gambling at the Indian
casinos.  Her main concern was her two
kitties, Abby and Mimi who now have a new home
with four young men who love cats.  Cathy
died very peacefully in her home with her friends
and kitties at her side.  She very generously
left her estate to children and animal
organizations.  She is survived by her
brother Paul -- Nancy Lakdawala, Neighbor

 Terrence Bellville
 March 29, 1944 - December 22, 2015

                  Terry passed peacefully at
home in Green Valley, Ariz. He was born on a bus
while his family was moving from Texas to Iowa,
setting him on the road to travel. He became a
world traveler. His husband of 10 years, David Carter, was bedside
when Terry drew his last breath, along with their
dog, Ellie. Terry served his country in the Navy
as a gunner in the Me Kong Delta, where he was
exposed to Agent Orange. An avid reader, he always
had a book nearby. He was a volunteer at the Green
Valley Annex Book Store, which he enjoyed greatly.
After college, Terry became a buyer of medical
equipment, traveling to the Philippines. His
favorite position was with Mercy Hospital as
Delivery Room Triage in San Diego. A proud gay
man, he co-founded "Gay Fathers of San Diego" in
the early '70s. Terry moved from his childhood
home of San Diego to Tucson in 2002 where he met
David. Terry's infectious smile and delightful
sense of humor will be missed by all who knew and
loved him. He was an awesome man!

My brother went to see about a
knee and hip replacement and learned that he had
Lou Gehrig’s Disease. He was told that he had two
years to live. His body broke down and he was
overwhelmed. He passed away with his wife Jayne
and family by his side. His happiest memories at

 Gussie passed
away at her home in Rogers, Arkansas.  She is

and was preceded in death by her brother Guy '71
                      and sister Deva '66
 I always enjoyed Gussie.
We even met up a few years ago in Arkansas
when I had invited her to join me at an
annual event I  attended over there.
Rest in peace dear Gussie -- Londa
                    Galley Warren ’62

Gussie was a dear friend with
a great sense of humor.  We had stayed in
contact through the years and I knew about her
health issues and when I didn't hear from her at
Christmas, I kind of through something was
wrong.  I will never forget her smile and her
love for her family and friends.  Rest in
peace dear lady.  You will be missed....love
you always -- Donna Ellen Johnson ’62

 Both Ron & Heather Meyer
Jagodinski of the Crawford Class of 1962 knew
Gussie as far back as the elementary grades at
John Muir School near 68th street which served the
College and Rolando areas of San Diego.  We
had a chance to talk to our friend Gussie at the
                      '62 fifty-year reunion gathering.  A rather
unusual person being that she was a friend to all
---and we are sure that her goodness will shine
                      on.

I was saddened to see that Gussie had passed
away.  I also went to school with Gussie at
John Muir Elementary and Horace Mann Junior
High.  I have great memories of her sense of
humor and fun we had--especially in junior
high.....I remember blowing up a pumpkin one
Halloween with a cherry bomb and Gussie's love of
cherry pie!  Susie Acord Thomas, Gussie and I
shared some fun times -- Pamela Ruth

 Jerome “Jerry”
                      Drilling
 September 4, 1944 - April 15, 2015

                  Fire Captain Jerry Drilling
answered his last alarm on April 15, 2015 in
Nevada, MO. Jerry was born in Deadwood, South
Dakota. After his father returned from WWII, the
family moved back to San Diego where his father
had a job with the San Diego Fire Department
before WWII. While at Crawford, he was a member of
the ROTC program where he attained the highest
rank possible as a Lieutenant Colonel. Jerry
joined the California National Guard and attended
San Diego City College where he received a degree
in Fire Science. He followed in his father’s
footsteps by joining the San Diego Fire Department
in 1969 as a Fireman 4th Class. He was promoted to
engineer in July 1981 and to captain in January
1989. He always enjoyed telling the story about
the time he worked in Fire
                      Prevention/Investigation and his father, Jerome,
was the assistant chief of that unit. Around 1974
firemen in Ocean Beach were complaining about cars
parked in the alleys denying access to the fire
trucks during emergencies. Jerry and his father
went out one Sunday morning and located several
vehicles parked and blocking the alleys. During
one incident, Jerry called for a tow truck. The
owner came out and was upset his car was being
towed. He asked Jerry his name because he was
going to file a complaint. Jerry said “Drilling.”
The owner wanted to speak to his supervisor so his
father, Assistant Chief Drilling, responded. After
Chief Drilling told him his car was going to be
towed, he wanted his name too. The chief said
“Drilling.” The car owner became upset, thought
they were lying about their names and called the
police department. Jerry’s brother Greg, who was a
police officer and working in the area, responded
to the radio call. When Greg arrived and told him
his car was illegally parked and was going to be
towed, he wanted to know his name for a complaint.
Greg said “Drilling.” The owner got a weird look
on his face, threw up his arms and went back
inside his residence. In 1989, the fire department
published a book commemorating the hundred year
anniversary of the department. Jerry volunteered
to write the history of the department for the
publication. It took him a year to research and
write the history on his own time and when it was
completed, he received accolades from the
department for the thoroughness and completeness
of his writings. He received a commendation from
the chief. In 1990, Jerry was seriously injured in
a car accident while responding to an emergency by
a car that failed to yield to the fire truck. He
medically retired in 1991 with a disability. He
moved his family to El Dorado Springs, MO. Where
                      he lived until his death.

settled in his adopted state in 1987, had

Steve died of a heart attack
on his wife Jeanne's birthday. The Eddys had moved
to Fresno, California in 1982 to be closer to his
wife's parents. Steve, in an attempt to curb a
smoking habit that had begun in high school, went
on "the patch". Four days later he died of a heart
attack. He is survived by daughter Laura, son

 Cheryl Lynn Elliott Townsend
 August 28, 1944 - September 18, 2015

Known to family as Cheryl, she
was perhaps best known to a wide network of
lifelong friends as Lynn. She was the daughter of
National League MVP, Bob Elliot, and Iva R.
Elliott. She married John Townsend in 1962, and
took over the management of The Chicken Pie Shop
after John died in 2011. Lynn was the center of
strong circle of friends, some formed and
maintained from grammar school, but especially
from her time at Crawford. Lynn is survived by her
sons Bob Townsend and Chris Townsend. Bob is golf
professional at the Riverwalk Performance Center
and is married to Lisa Townsend. They have two
children, Jack and Dylan. Chris is a sports radio

 John Floodberg
 June 20, 1944 – March 30, 2022
Born in Oneida, New York, John
moved with his mother to Chula Vista at the age of four.  He was a
San Diego resident the remainder of his life.  John began
undergraduate classes at Mesa College soon after graduation. He joined
the National Guard and married his first wife, Judy Thomas, in
1965.  Between 1965 and 1972, John worked as a draftsman for
several architectural firms. The first blueprints John put his
architectural stamp on were for the Grove Gallery at the UCSD Crafts
Center, built in 1982.  It was a collaboration between John and his
childhood friend, Ron Carlson ’62, the Center's Director.  John
and his current wife, Nancy Dickinson Floodberg, met in 1971 when he
volunteered to bring the San Diego Mental Health Association's halfway
house up to code; Nancy was the Director of the halfway house. They wed
two years later and moved to a home in Pt. Loma – the home he lovingly
remodeled over the years and where Nancy, their eldest daughter and her
family still reside. In 2005 he was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease.
As with any challenge he faced, he met this diagnosis with grace and
determination. He was preceded in death by his brother Ron Robson ’71

 Mary Fraine Ireland August 14, 1944 - October 12, 2007
                  Mary graduated from San Diego
State and worked for Scripps Clinic for more than
a decade, as well as Fraine, Inc., a real estate
holdling company. She supported many cat refuges
with both time and money. She is survived by James
                      Whitten, an uncle in Texas.

Bob has been like a brother to
me for 53 years. He fought diabetes all his life -- Bob Harrison '62

The only thing that we know
for certain is that we will meet somewhere for
pizza and beverages after the service. We are
looking for someplace fairly central like Mission
Valley. If you have any suggestions please let me
know and we will take them under consideration. We
are planning on making the service and the meal
afterward a CELEBRATION of Bob's life. I know that
there is not one of us that can say that he didn't
not only put a smile on our face but would
actually make us laugh out loud often. He should
be remembered for that. Again, I thank you for all
your prayers and good thoughts. I know it made it
a lot easier not only for me but for Bob, too -- Phil

                  JoAnn loved gardening, bird
watching and the sunshine, mystery, crime solving
novels and movies and anything John Wayne and
America, and most of all her family. She had an
amazing passion for the things she loved as well
as the things she didn't. She was never afraid to
speak her mind. JoAnn lived her life on her own
terms and passed the same way. Her spirit, passion
and fiery personality have left a permanent
imprint on all of our lives and she will be
greatly missed. She leaves behind a strong, loving

 Rona Goldfarb October 1, 1944 - April 23, 2016
                  Rona passed away in Los
Angeles from a form of leukemia. She had a passion
for life and spent the last seven years holding on
to it with a great spirit and determination.
Rona was a creative soul.  She had a
gift for language and music which she brought
together in her songs for children.  Each
song communicated in a most enticing way the
values that Rona embraced fervently – that we must
honor and appreciate one another, that we must
care for our precious earth, that we must let go
and grow up, that we must strive most of all for
peace on earth and good will to all.  Her
greeting cards expressed her wicked humor with
both visual and written puns based on food and
drink.  Rona refused to be discouraged and in
even at the very end of her life, she was
optimistic that “Clarence, The Candy Cane Unicorn”
would find its place with children all over the
world. She leaves behind her brother, Neil, and
her very dear friends who will continue to hold
close the memories of a vibrant, athletic,
talented, compassionate and very funny Rona -- Andrea Masimow

 Bob served a four-year term
in the Air Force after high school, then worked in construction and
with mechanical and electrical equipment. He married for a short time in
the early 1970s and had two daughters. In July of 1979 he married the

His positive outlook and one-of-a-kind humor will surely be missed by
all who treasured him.  He is survived by, among others, his sister

Bishop, California following a battle with cancer.
Earlier in 2012, he wrote about his life. “In 1959
the family moved to San Diego, where I finished up
high school. My parents bought a fresh juice
company and I worked with them to make the
business survive. Pay was room and board at home,
plus a very small salary. The salary, however,
turned out to be easy to save, because of working
six days per week and long hours.” The business
moved to Monrovia, where Lynn lived. Lynn worked
many successful years in the family business. He
met “the love of his life, Bonnie” and married
March 30, 1996. Lynn chose to spend his retirement
years in Bishop. He is survived by his wife
Bonnie, brother Kemp ’66, sister Mignon Lingwall
                      ’64, and many loving relatives.

 Marcia MacDonald
 February 11, 1945 - October 16, 2022
Marcia passed away in New York City after an acute asthma attack.  Her
sparkle will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
I moved next door to Marcia in
1957 when she was 12.  We were both only children, and I came to
think of her as the sister I never had.  Her Mom had a clever,
funny, sometimes sassy sense of humor, which Marcia
perpetuated. Marcia found fun in unexpected situations.  Her
perspective was unique, as was she.  She was bright, quick, and
when she entered a room, all eyes were on her.  She was caring,
comforting and she easily assessed a person's mood or perspective.
Her childlike persona was just below the surface, popping out when
you least expected it, usually sending everyone into hysterics.
While she was in high school, we both -- each with a good friend -- were
part of a student group that went to Europe and had a great time riding
our Vespas everywhere.  Sometime after graduating from college,
she went back "across the pond" living in London for a number of years.
When she returned to the US, she fell in love with New York City and in
the years ahead nothing we could do could persuade her to move back to
California.  She would come sometimes for Thanksgiving or Christmas
and was the Godmother to our daughter, Kelli.  She had a very
special relationship with children, who trusted her implicitly,
confiding in her, were charmed by her and definitely loved her.
When we would tell the children that Marcia was coming to visit, you
would have thought we told them they were going to Disneyland! -- Dan Donovan

 Ron Mollick
 March 5, 1944 - May 7, 2022
 My husband passed away in
Newport News, VA where he resided most of the last 54 years.
He graduated from San Diego State with BS and MS and earned his PhD
from North Carolina State University.  He taught biology at
Christopher Newport University in Newport News from 1968 to 2011. We
have two daughters and six grandchildren.  He was able to have both
daughters on hand in his final days and died peacefully in my
arms.  He was very fond of recalling his youth growing up with his
family in San Diego, on Esther Street and his days as a student in
Southern California -- Beth Mollick
Ron and I were married in 1966.
I worked while got his MS. He was offered his first college teaching
job in Virginia in 1968, so off we went.  We had a friendly split
in 1970 and I returned to the Bay Area in California. We stayed close
friends for 62 years, sharing each other’s joys and sorrows.  I
called him every year on his birthday.  I last spoke to him right
before his birthday, when Beth was visiting him in assisted living as he
was trying to get stronger -- Bernadine “Berni” Berlin Temple ’62

Olympia Washington. Cathy went to Horace Mann and
attended Crawford but graduated from a high school
in Hawaii. She went on to become a registered

 Nancy Murdock Sheeran October 25, 1945 -
                      January 15, 2008
                  Nancy passed away in Edmonton,
Alberta, Canada. She met Don Sheeran at San Diego
State where he was an engineering student and
married in 1966. Don and Nancy later moved to
Chicago where they both got master’s degrees.
After Chicago, they moved to Montreal, where Don
earned a PhD in Civil Engineering. After Montreal,
Nancy and Don moved to Fort McMurray, Alberta,
Canada where Don worked on many different
oil-shale projects. Nancy had two master’s
degrees. One degree was in linguistics from
Northeastern University in Illinois, and a second
in Speech Pathology from McGill University,
Montreal. After graduation, Nancy worked in Speech
Pathology both in Montreal and Fort McMurray. I
visited Don and Nancy in all of these places.
During a visit at Fort McMurray in 1996, Nancy
told me that she had cancer. She said that it was
a slow-moving form and that she would probably be
with us another ten years. Last September, I
wondered how Don and Nancy were doing and called.
Nancy told me then that she did not have much
time. She lived two years longer then she told me
she would. One of the things that I always
remember about Nancy is that I always saw her with
a smile. She never had a bad thing to say and was
always positive -- Rolfe Pope ‘62
     Ron Newport

September 20, 1943 - May 10, 2021

 Born in Nevada, Missouri, Ron
moved to San Diego in 1948 with his brother Larry and sister
Linda.   He quickly adopted the Southern California lifestyle.
Ron received his education at San Diego State University. As a youth,
Ron became interested in the environment. Two of his interests were
forestry and firefighting.  In 1963 Ron was hired by the California
Division of Forestry. His initial assignment was with a dozer crew
where he assisted in building fire roads, inspecting dams and learning
the wildland firefighting trade.  In 1965, Ron was called to serve
his country in the United States Army. Ron completed basic training and
was stationed at Fort Polk, Louisiana as an orthopedic medic. His job
included setting, casting, splinting, pinning, and treating soldier’s
fractures and other orthopedic related injuries. Three months later,
Ron’s brother was called to serve his country. His brother was deployed
to Vietnam and was unfortunately killed in action while performing
Special Forces duty.  After being discharged from the Army, Ron
went back to work for the California Division of Forestry (CDF). His
initial assignment as a seasonal firefighter was in San Diego County. In
1967 Ron was hired permanently as a firefighter in CDF/Orange County
Fire Dept. Ron became a member of the crash fire rescue crew at the
Orange County Airport (now called John Wayne Airport).  Ron married
Merrilee Fortin in 1978, and had one daughter, Dani Newport
Barker.  Ron enjoyed his time off with his family and friends water
skiing and snow skiing and house boating. He played rugby many years,
golf, and Senior Softball with the La Mesa League, along with many other
 sports.

I met Michal and her husband
for the first time at our October 50th reunion and
bonded with her instantly. We stayed in touch
since then. I was immensely blessed and inspired
by her in the short time I knew her. She fought
valiantly the cancer that she had been battling
for some time. I am deeply saddened by her loss --

                  Barbara Prout Fulton March 20, 1944 - May 19, 2012
                  Barbara Louise Prout was born
at Mercy Hospital. She attended San Diego State
University and received her BA in Education.
Barbara taught school for awhile at the high
school level, eventually changed jobs and worked
as an accountant for over 30 years. She retired in
2005. Barbara contracted a rare form of blood
cancer and had this disease for 15 years, and
eventually it claimed her life. She is buried in
“The Garden Of Reflection” at El Camino Park, on a
hill next to a pine tree. Barbara is survived by
her parents George and Edna Prout, brother George

husband. We were married on June 17th, 1967 and
were together for 45 wonderful years --

It was really sad, because he
was single and was suffering the affects of AIDS.
However, he died from internal bleeding, because
doctors were not able to get new blood into him
fast enough. The irony of his death is that our

                  While looking thru' my 1962
yearbook, I found the attached newspaper clipping
about Nancy Van Horne's fatal accident. I was
living in San Jose CA at the time of the accident
and a fellow class mate, Louise McGirr sent this
clipping to me. Thanks for the wonderful job you

life after a courageous battle with cancer
that plagued her life on and off for forty
years. Her life has truly been a "medical
miracle." Her greatest joy was being with her
family and the people that she loved. She also

years and worked for International Security at

    Jerome Zottolo
                      June 11, 1944 - April 15, 2020

                       Jerome
was born and lived in San Diego, the second
child of Vito and Virginia Zottolo.  He
learned the value of hard work as a teen
during the summer months by accompanying his
father on his tuna boat at a time when San
Diego was named the fishing capital of the
                          world.   Pleasant memories are of
him taking his younger siblings to weekly
family beach picnics and other city
                          events.  After graduating from Crawford
and serving in the National Guard, he settled
into the occupation of a truck driver with GI
Trucking for about 45 years.   He is
survived by, among others, his siblings Marco,
                          Maryann, and Frank.
 I was reading the
obituaries this morning and saw that Jerome
Zottolo had passed away. He had been in a
care facility because of his health and
caught Corona Virus.  He was a very
funny guy.  He had the last page of the
yearbook to himself and stated that “I
aspire to be the President of the United
States”.  We used to fight with tennis
